Happy Holidays!

Christmas Scene

The Christmas season is upon us and for most it promises to be a very different one. We usually visit our grandchildren right here in Richmond but this year we’ll be “Zooming” on Christmas morning to watch them open their gifts and I expect many others will be doing the same.

With the new vaccines just now starting to arrive things are looking much more promising but we still need to do our part to keep the virus in check until they are available to us all. It looks hopeful that we might be able to start dancing again in the Fall of 2021. Me thinks there’s gonna be a whole lot of reviewing necessary!

Eileen and I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a prosperous 2021. We look forward to seeing everyone on the dance floor before too long.

Happy Holidays!

The club’s annual “In From The Cold” Christmas benefit dance took place on  the evening of Friday 13th. The evening started with a pot-luck dinner at 6PM followed by an evening of dancing until the reality that it was Friday 13th hit the computer and hearing assist causing both units to stop working. Both are up and running again. The hearing assist is sporting a replacement power supply courtesy of Value Village and the computer after extensive testing has been declared fit for service again. In spite of the gremlins it was a very successful evening with $756 raised for Parkdale United Church’s “In From The Cold” program. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the evening! I will have some pictures (courtesy Ziggy) in the “Gallery” hopefully before too long.

The website has been updated with the dance calendar for the next session which will run from early January to the end of March. Monday dancing starts on Jan 6 and Thursday dancing on Jan 9 for 12 weeks. Monday dancers please make note that Feb. 17th is Family Day so there won’t be dancing that day.

An upcoming change to the website will be the addition of a password to access the Dropbox videos. Once this is done I’ll email all our club members with the password. If you haven’t received it once it’s in effect please email WebKeeper@capitalcarousels.ca and I’ll email it to you. If you know someone in another dance club who’s been using the videos to improve their dancing please give me their email and I’ll send them the password.

It’s now officially winter and you can expect some stormy days when you’ll wonder if dancing is on. Please check your email before setting out to see if there’s a cancellation notice. I will also try to get a cancellation notice front and center on the website as well.

A number of dancers are heading on vacation in the next couple of months. Safe travels to all.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah  and Happy Dancing in 2020.

Season’s Greetings

Capital Carousels held their annual Christmas Party/Benefit dance on Friday Dec 7th. The evening started with an excellent “Potluck” dinner followed by a couple of hours of dancing. As in previous years all funds collected were donated to Parkdale United’s “In From The Cold” program. The hall was nicely decorated courtesy of Pat & Jill who have now handed the club’s decoration duties over to Robert & Jean.  It was nice to have Pat, Marion, and Donna back with us for the evening. Also Arlo and Maureen sporting their tans. Thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make the dinner and dance such a success. $750 was raised for the “In From The Cold” program.
Check out the “Gallery” for newly added pictures of the dance and also the 2018 Capital Caper back in October.

The website will be undergoing some changes over the next few weeks bringing it up-to-date for the Winter Session. Some changes like Winter Session dates/rates have already been posted under the “Dance Season” menu.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2019!

Love Is In The Air At Capital Carousels

Welcome to the 2016 version of Capital Carousels Valentine’s Day Celebration! Red and white attire and decorations, heart stickers at the door, valentine sweets in the form of cake and cookies and of course, lots of dances with love as the backdrop. It was a great time both Wednesday and Thursday! Thanks to the two Pats and Gavin for the help with decorations and the stickers. Ziggy and Jenny also do an excellent job with the refreshments and also to Brian and Ann for their assistance with refreshments on Thursdays. Lots of wonderful comments about the programs as well. Be sure to let Pat know how much you enjoy them. All her time and effort pays off! Life must continue though as we continued to work on foxtrot figures on both our Wednesday and Thursday dance groups. Both groups have been introduced to new figures and with that, more and more practice. Life would be very dull in the round dance world in a “see one-do one-teach one” environment. Luckily, we will all have many opportunities to continue working on these figures as they become second nature.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day this coming Sunday. I know I’ve had fun celebrating these past few days in advance of the big day!

We’re Celebrating Valentine’s This Week!

Valentine’s Day is coming up and Capital Carousels, never being without a reason to celebrate will be doing just that this week. Pat has structured the programs to feature lots of love songs! We encourage everyone to come dressed up in something red to celebrate the holiday. I am sure we will also have treats to match so be prepared to enjoy something festive and sweet this week. We will still be having our regular teach time and I understand some review on both days of our foxtrot figures will be going on so get your partner! Let’s trip the light fantastic for this special salute to Valentine’s Day!
We have been fortunate this winter with milder than usual temperatures. We’ve been lucky so far with no cancellations as a club. Unfortunately we have had some of our dancers who have had to cancel dancing due to illness, travel distance from us here in Ottawa, or away to far away lands. I would just like to say that we miss all of our dancing family. If you are away due to illness, please know you are thought of and we all wish you speedy recoveries. For those of you away from us due to distance, we do understand that winter being unpredictable in nature ,is not always worth the risk. We will look forward to seeing you later this spring. For those of our friends who flap their wings and go somewhere warmer for the winter, we think of you as well and so glad we can keep you in the loop with our website here. We also look forward to seeing you in the spring as well.
Pat has a jam packed agenda for us from now through the end of the season. Lots to learn and lots of dancing ahead for Capital Carousels. Get your dance shoes! We’ll be dancing on air with hearts all aflutter for Valentine’s Day this week!
